The Opioid epidemic is one of the biggest health problems that Americans are facing today. Unlike COVID 19, the Opioid epidemic is a silent killer. According to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, from 1999–2018, almost 450,000 people died from an overdose involving any opioid, including prescription and illicit opioids.
The Opioid crisis began in the late 1990s, when pharmaceutical companies gave the okay for healthcare providers to prescribe opioid pain relievers to patients at greater rates. This increase in prescription resulted in widespread substance abuse as both prescription and non-prescription opioids showed to have highly addictive properties to humans.
CBD Scientist, Yasmin Hurd, reveals groundbreaking research involving CBD's vital role in the eradication of the Opioid epidemic within the United States. With 1.27 million Americans now receiving medication-assisted treatments for their Opioid addiction, Hurd reveals that CBD can be used as a non-addictive, highly effective treatment option for those overcoming opioid addiction because of Cannabinoids ability to affect chemicals in the brain that regulate anxiety and emotion. As Hurd explains in her highly informative TED Talk, CBD elements can alter an Opioid addicted brain in a way that leads a person down the path to recovery.
